Brava vs. DaVinci: An Installer's Honest Comparison for North Texas
Brava Roof Tile and DaVinci Roofscapes are the two names that come up in nearly every composite roofing conversation, and both make genuinely good products. We're a Brava Preferred Contractor, so you know where we landed — but this comparison plays it straight, because if you're spending this much on a roof you deserve real differences, not marketing.
We install both — see our completed DaVinci Multi-Width Slate project in Colleyville.
What They Have in Common
Both brands make synthetic slate and cedar shake products that are:
- •Class 4 impact rated — the highest hail rating available
- •Class A fire rated (in their fire-rated configurations)
- •Lightweight — no structural reinforcement required, unlike natural slate or clay
- •Long-warranted — both offer limited lifetime / 50-year-class warranties
- •Far more realistic than the plastic-looking synthetics of 15 years ago
Installed pricing between the two brands typically differs by less than 10%. Price should not be the deciding factor; the differences below should be.
Difference 1 — Materials and Composition
DaVinci uses virgin resins with UV stabilizers, engineered for tight consistency. Brava uses a proprietary polymer composite incorporating recycled materials — a point for homeowners who care about sustainability, with no performance penalty we've observed in the field.
Difference 2 — Color Technology (the Underrated One)
This is the difference we consider most important for Texas specifically. DaVinci colors its tiles with UV-stabilized pigments blended through the tile. Brava uses its patented Colorcast mineral-infusion process, bonding color at the mineral level, with every pallet shipped from multiple production batches to create natural roof-wide color variation.
Under DFW's UV intensity — among the harshest in the country for roofing — color longevity and natural variation are what make a synthetic roof keep looking real in year 20. A roof that reads as authentic slate on installation day but fades flat by year ten defeats the purpose of paying for the look in the first place.
Difference 3 — Product Lines
DaVinci makes slate and shake profiles, in single- and multi-width formats. It does not make a barrel tile.
Brava makes slate, shake, and Spanish barrel tile.
If you want a Mediterranean barrel-tile look — common in DFW luxury architecture — Brava is the only one of the two that makes it. For slate and shake, both compete head-to-head. You can see Brava's full lineup on our Brava roofing page.
Difference 4 — Thickness and Profile
Brava's cedar shake runs 5/8" to 7/8" thick, at the deeper end of the category, producing the heavy shadow lines that make a shake roof read as real from the street. DaVinci's multi-width products are also convincing; on side-by-side samples, most of our clients pick the thicker profile. Ask any bidder to bring physical samples — never decide from a website photo.
What Matters More Than the Brand
An imperfectly installed premium tile fails before a well-installed average one. Composite tiles are a system: fastening schedules, exposure, flashing, and ventilation determine whether that 50-year warranty means anything. Both manufacturers certify installers for a reason — whichever brand you choose, use a manufacturer-recognized installer and confirm what warranty tier their status qualifies your roof for.
That's the honest reason we're a Brava Preferred Contractor rather than a brand-agnostic installer: we picked the product we believed in, got trained and vetted by the manufacturer, and install it to spec every time.
The Bottom Line
Choose DaVinci and you'll get a quality roof — it's a good product with a long track record. Choose Brava and you get the same Class 4 protection with mineral-infused color built for Texas UV, recycled-content construction, thicker shake profiles, and the only true Spanish barrel tile of the two — at essentially the same price.
