LOW-SLOPE ROOFING
A Fort Worth or Dallas estate home is rarely all-flat. It is a tile, slate, or metal roof with flat sections over the porch, the porte-cochère, a second-floor deck, or a rear addition. Those flat sections are a completely different roofing system with different failure modes, and the seam where the two systems meet is where the water almost always gets in.
Most homeowners end up hiring two contractors — a steep-slope specialist and a commercial flat-roof crew — and the transition detail becomes nobody’s responsibility. DW Construction self-performs both sides of that transition with our own crews.
SYSTEMS WE INSTALL
There is no single flat-roof membrane that is right for every deck. The system we specify depends on what is on the deck, what is around it, and how the deck is built.
SYSTEM
The standard single-ply specification for most residential flat decks. Heat-welded seams form one continuous waterproof sheet, and the reflective white surface cuts deck temperature in a North Texas summer.
SYSTEM
A heavier gauge. Specified where the deck is walkable, where furniture or planters sit on it, or where hail exposure argues for more puncture resistance.

Specified where grease, chemicals, or sustained high heat are a factor — kitchen exhaust zones, equipment decks — and as a premium residential membrane.

Common on older Fort Worth estate decks. We repair and replace both, and we will tell you honestly when a sound mod-bit roof should be repaired rather than torn off.
WHERE FLAT ROOFS ACTUALLY FAIL
The tie-in is where the membrane meets the tile, slate, or shingle — the termination bar and counterflashing at the wall, the step-flashing run that carries water out from under the steep-slope material. A membrane that stops short at a parapet, or a step-flashing run tucked under tile instead of integrated with it, is the most common leak we find on high-end homes.
We detail that junction as one assembly because one crew builds both sides of it. The membrane does not end where the tile begins; the two are flashed together so water moving down the roof crosses the transition without an opening to find.
